We are deeply saddened to share the news that Elaine Buchanan, a past-President of the Society for Back Pain Research (SBPR) and a valued member of the UKSSB Board, has recently passed away.

Elaine made an outstanding contribution to the field of spinal health and to the work of UKSSB and its constituent spine societies over many years. She was instrumental in shaping spinal care in the UK, notably as the final editor of the National Back Pain and Radicular Pain Pathway and as a driving force behind the development of what is now the National Spinal Network (NSN).

She will be remembered not only for her professional achievements but also for her warmth, generosity of spirit, and the positive impact she had on colleagues and the wider spinal health community.

On behalf of UKSSB and its societies, we extend our heartfelt condolences to Elaine’s family, friends, and all who had the privilege of working with her.

On behalf of

The UKSSB Board and the constituent member societies
