Do you want to be the local host for future BritSpine meetings?

Bids to host BritSpine 2022/24 are welcome - Deadline for bids - 1st September 2019


BritSpine 2022 and 2024 will be the 12th and 13th biennial conference and exhibition of the United Kingdom Spine Societies Board (UKSSB), and has expanded to be the largest multidisciplinary scientific meeting on the topic of spines in the UK. BritSpine is held across three days and brings together experts in spinal conditions, research and treatment from across the world to expand knowledge and promote networking. BritSpine also hosts a number of pre-meeting events the day before the main meeting and exhibition.

The UKSSB are looking for bids from constituent society members* who wish to locally host future BritSpine events in 2022 and 2024.

*Constituent society members of either BASS, BSS, SBPR, BASCIS or NBP-CN


Requirements as Host(s): As BritSpine is a multidisciplinary meeting, we would welcome local bids from groups of members that reflect the range of membership that the UKSSB societies have (surgeons, physios, researchers, specialists etc).

If selected as host for future BritSpine meetings, the UKSSB will expect a level of commitment which will include:

  • 2 years co-opted to the UKSSB Board and attendance at board meetings (two face-to-face and two teleconference meetings a year, maximum of two local hosts to attend – expenses reimbursed)

  • Local hosts to be part of BritSpine Programme Committee, alongside the UKSSB Executive and society representatives to assist in developing an engaging and wide scientific agenda – meetings will be via teleconference only and frequency determined by committee

  • Work with our events manager at Archer Yates Associates (AYA), including site visits and logistical planning

  • Plan social events such as the faculty and conference dinners, welcome reception and other entertainment as required

  • Liaise with the UKSSB Treasurer and AYA to create and manage the event budget and costs 

  • Participate in BritSpine, ensuring that the meeting runs smoothly and dealing with on-site issues 

  • Generating advertisement text and assist with advertising if BritSpine to potential delegates and industry partners

  • Other tasks, including (but not limited to): invitations to faculty, proof-reading of printed materials, etc.


Dates for BritSpine 2022 and 2024:

  • Early/Mid-April, avoiding Bank Holidays and school holidays

  • Monday to Friday hire of venue (to include setup, pre-event meetings and main conference)

Criteria/requirements for possible event venue:

  • Exhibition space for (approx.) 60 stands of different sizes depending on packages, and around 60 Poster Boards - 1500 square meters (m2) minimum

  • Main Auditorium - Theatre style for approximately 500-600 delegates

  • Secondary Auditorium for parallel session - Theatre style for approximately 250-300 delegates

  • 10x Workshop / breakout rooms (approx. 20-60 delegate capacity each)

  • Easy transport links and parking facilities nearby

  • Nearby hotels with a mixture of budgets for accommodation of 150 bedrooms each night
